The Pure Gallery - End of Year Review 2010

Well, what a year. I say year, but it's only been a quarter of a year! Since we opened in September it has been non-stop. Time goes so fast in the gallery with so much going on...

We opened late September 2010 with fantastic help from family, friends and artists. Our first exhibition was a spur of the moment kind of do with a few emails pinging back and forth with Paul Davidson, a local illustrator who draws for Marvel Comics. We were so chuffed to have Paul on board for our first exhibition, his work is amazing.

We had two weeks to put together the exhibition (which Paul did almost single handedly, and nearly missing Marvel deadlines). All original work at unbelievable prices. The exhibition was a fantasic success selling over three quarters of the work available. Paul is a legend and an altogether sound fella.

Another highlight of the year has been dealing with Chris Bourke. An artist who is down to earth and ultra professional. His work is very unique and has been very popular with the locals. It's been a true pleasure working with this guy and long may it continue.

More special thanks go to Guy McKinley who told us that we are the first to stock his prints outside of him selling them directly himself, which is a great boost to us in our first year. Again, great work and really nice to work with... a true professional.

A further great night was had by all when The Pure Gallery hosted Project Club in November. 35mm cameras, polaroids and mulled wine were the order of the day with some neat results and memories. Big thanks to everyone who came along, and I'm sure there'll be future collaborations.

Bruce Parker is another artist who's work and attitude fits in perfectly with the gallery. After dropping by one day, Bruce left us with his website portfolio and it quickly became apparent that we could work together. We asked him to hit our window with his Posca Pen skills and within the week it was finished. Big thanks Bruce.

Finally, a big thanks to all contributing artists who have been a pleasure to work with, and to all those who have visited the gallery and given positive feedback (and there were a lot of you). So, all in all, it's been an unbelievable year for us and it's easy to say 2011 will be a big year for The Pure Gallery, but we have plans in place for the gallery to evolve and not stand still. Onwards and upwards! Watch this space...
